French term

réponses formulées ou non

French to English Law/Patents General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters Sale of property

In the first instance you might be tempted to read this as 'answers, whether or not formulated in response to questions asked by the Purchaser'. However, in the second instance this is not an option!

I'm wondering therefore what it really means, and what a 'réponse non formulée' might mean? In a more informal context, this would mean an answer given without thinking. In this more formal context, could the distinction be between written and non-written replies; standardised and personalised replies; or 'full' and 'one-word' answers?

Discussion

Sheila Wilson May 22, 2011:
My take, in non-legal language 'Many questions were asked, either orally or in writing, and these questions have been itemised. Details of all responses received have also been included. However, there may be some questions which have not (yet) received answers.' I believe that's pretty much what it's saying.

answers given (or not given)

Or "responses given (or not)" – not a common term in English (try googling it, with quote marks), but then neither is the French term.
