Spanish term

eximente de responsabilidad

Spanish to English Law/Patents Law: Contract(s)
My hunch is that this should be either a) exculpatory grounds/circumstances, or b) extenuating circumstances. It is tantamount to an "escape clause" but is used throughout the contract as a term (in both sing. and plural). Help appreciated.

Thank you very much, Paul!
Silvia Brandon-Pérez Oct 21, 2008:
Of course, either one of those would work.
Paul Kozelka (asker) Oct 21, 2008:
Thanks, silviantonia, for the fully grounded professional clarification. In the absence of any pertinent context to the contrary, I have used 'dispensatory circumstances' but may suggest 'liability exclusions' to the client as well.
Silvia Brandon-Pérez Oct 21, 2008:
I hope that you are not using exculpatory, which is used in the criminal realm. As for exceptions, exemptions, etc., as contained in your link, those are in our answers. As a former criminal attorney, please note that exculpatory is not applicable.

Liability exclusions (exemptions, releases, exceptions)

Can't think of anything except from liability exemption(s)
Note from asker:
Thank you, Angel. I understand the meaning and can create innumerable denotative phrases to cover it, but am hoping to find a 'neat', 2-word equivalent (if such exists!) since this is used in myriad contexts and phrasings in the contract.
