Background

I have worked as a writer, translator, academic and journalist. In college, I majored in Spanish and English, and also studied French and Italian. I lived in Paris for 13 years, and during this time I supported myself mainly by working as a freelance translator (French/Spanish to English) for different departments at UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization). I also worked for several Member States' delegations to UNESCO (Senegal, Venezuela, Tunisia and Mexico). My specialization here was speeches. I mainly translated speeches of ambassadors and on one occasion a head of state, the first president of Senegal (Senghor).

When I returned to the USA, I was a full-time professor (Associate and Assistant) for 11 years in New York (Fordham University and Queens College), and was a Visiting Professor (Associate) at Queens University in Canada.  I continued to use my language skills as my specialty was international communications and I traveled widely, including time spent in Calcutta as a Fulbright Professor. I published a book on Global Peace with an academic publisher (Sage) and numerous articles in scholarly and professional publications. I later worked, again, as a freelance translator. Clients included the World Bank, the French American Chamber of Commerce in New York, and the French government. I also was employed  as a journalist and business writer. I worked in marketing  for IBM during the height of the Internet "boom" period, writing articles for its e-commerce site.

I have also worked in higher  education administration, as a Director of Marketing and/or Communications for various colleges. In my last full-time job in Boston, I won two top awards for a marketing and media campaign I launched: a Grand Gold from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) and a Gold from the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR).

Areas of Specialization

I am a very resourceful generalist, with strong research skills. There are, however, certain areas I have worked in more than others:

-Marketing and Public Relations

-Speeches (government & political officials, executives)

-Mass Media and Journalism

-Artificial Intelligence

-Academic Work (articles, book chapters, research reports, etc.)

-International Relations and International Development

-Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs) and Non-profits

-Refugees and Migrants

-IT (Information Technology)

-Education and Pedagogy

-RFPs, Proposals and Grant Writing

-Culture and Tourism Activities

-E-commerce and Retail

-Business and Finance
