Hello everyone, I would appreciate any advice on whether I should download a software that a translation agency asks me to. It is not one of the well-known translation tools, I have never herd about this particular one before. They present it as a convenient way to communicate and to have access to all the jobs offered in my language combination. I've checked out the agency and it seems to be legal. Thank you in advance!

Hi Iryna, this year a translation agency asked me to download Idiom Desktop Workbench. I don't think is common, but it can happen. Most of my clients ask me to work online or on Trados Studio.

Did you exercise due diligence? I noticed that you are a new member and many scammers target newcomers. I pray i am wrong. Good luck, Lee

No client of mine has ever asked me to download their software, but two of my regulars have given me access to their software (XTM).

How do you know it isn't spyware? Does it give them access to everything on your hard drive? Does it enable them to track what you're doing?

Lionbridge asks to download and install their XLIFF Editor and Linguistic Toolbox tools. It is absolutely ok. What software do they ask you to download? If you named it in your post, it would be easier to tell if it is a cAT tool or spyware.
